New look, proven security Commend Website Relaunch

Commend

Commend, an internationally recognized specialist in communication and security solutions for over 50 years, has completely overhauled its website and now presents itself with a fresh, modern look. Known in Germany as Schneider Intercom, the company stands for the highest level of security in critical infrastructures such as buildings, transport hubs, and industrial facilities. The relaunch reflects the company's commitment to meeting the latest standards online and providing an optimized user experience.

A fresh design and intuitive navigation

The newly redesigned website impresses with a sleek, intuitive design that offers visitors a pleasant user experience. The navigation has been completely revamped to ensure effortless guidance to the desired information. The content has also been revised, now providing clear, easily accessible information on solutions, use cases, and much more.

Improved CLibrary with an enhanced rights management system

A central part of the relaunch was the modernization of the CLibrary, Commend’s platform for documents, manuals, and safety tips. The underlying TYPO3 instance was extensively updated — a complex task given the system’s years of growth. A special highlight is the integrated rights management system, which enables flexible control over access permissions. This ensures that customers receive only the documents and information relevant to them. Security was confirmed through a comprehensive external penetration test, which examined vulnerabilities over two weeks and was completed smoothly. The fully revamped CLibrary successfully went live about a year ago.

Global presence

The relaunch posed special challenges regarding international sales and multilingual presentation. To overcome TYPO3’s limitations in combining languages and countries, a custom extension was developed. This now allows the same language to be used for multiple countries, ensuring an optimal global presence.

ERP integration as a challenge

A core element of the project was the complex integration of the company’s ERP system. Through this interface, all product information—from technical data to multilingual descriptions and product images—is automatically fed into the website. The system also takes into account the relationships between products, allowing matching components to be displayed directly. Editors benefit from full control over product presentation and can flexibly decide which products and information should appear online.

Modern infrastructure

Technically, Commend relies on the Microsoft Azure Cloud. The entire application was implemented in a modern, container-based environment. Deployment is fully automated, and all services are configured using Infrastructure as Code and managed centrally via a hosted GitLab. Continuous monitoring and proactive maintenance ensure the highest security standards and up-to-date infrastructure at all times.

Flexibility for editors and lightning-fast loading times

A particular highlight of the new system is the enhanced flexibility for editors in the backend. They can now independently define which interfaces users should access based on region or country. These settings are configurable directly in the backend, allowing targeted customization of content for different markets.

Additionally, the new website benefits from significantly faster loading speeds thanks to statically cached HTML pages. This technology further caches content, enabling lightning-fast loading times. It reduces server load and ensures optimal performance even with high visitor numbers — a plus that is also reflected in Google PageSpeed scores.
